The painting above is entitled First Steps by Vincent van Gogh. I thought it a fitting representation of what Mr. Turgenev is talking about. There will never be a point in our lives where we reach "perfection," that title is reserved for God alone. Thus, our beginnings, our first steps in life, often come upon us when we least expect it and feel least prepared. Never let this be an excuse for not doing good today. Rather, rejoice in the humble nature of our human condition: we can do all things, even in our weakness, through He who strengthens us.
