Spring Fever?

It's the end of March and, at least where I am, the last days of chill and dreariness are upon us. Although it's officially spring, I think I have a case of spring fever! I'm anxious for some breezy days with sunshine! In the mean time, wherever you are, I hope these pictures add a little inspiration and color to your day if you're feeling the end-of-winter-blues like I am.

Flash Back: Wide Leg Jean

Sparking images of the 70s revamped, the wide leg jean is reminiscent of the Brady Bunch, Cher, earthy hippies, and free spirits. Originally, the pant was much more exaggerated than those you find today. The flares were bigger, the waistline even higher. However, I think the fashion world has found a happy medium since the 70s look has come back in a big way. The high waisted, wide leg jean now has a more tailored and tame look that is still fun, but manages to be chic. Turn up some Simon & Garfunkel and happy pant shopping!

Now, where to find the fabulous pants pictured above:
1. Tory Burch Spring 2011 RTW Collection: A zesty pair of single button lemon trousers.
2. Derek Lam Spring 2011 RTW Collection: The iconic 70s jean: high waist and flared leg.
3. Marc Jacobs Spring 2011 RTW Collection: A summer short take on the high waisted pant. (Don't they remind you of the high waisted shorts in the Notebook?)

Fresh Finds: Daydreem Shoes

I was one happy camper when I found this beautiful pair of shoes on Steve Madden today! They're a cross between the classic mary jane and the trendy oxford. The cutouts in the back and front of the shoe add a flirty touch. They'd make a sweet pair of summer shoes with shorts like these and a shirt like this.

Quote of the Day: Victor Hugo

"Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent."
Victor Hugo

Music speaks to the soul. Although, as Victor Hugo says, it is often impossible to adequately express how much music can move or change us. Whether it is music to dance to, to contemplate, or to lift your heart to the heavens, be inspired by the sounds that fill your life.

P.S. These are two instrumental songs that always inspire me.

The Dallas Flea

Today I ventured to the south side of Dallas to attend the Dallas Flea Market. Advertised as an upscale market for handmade and vintage goods, there were dozens of vendors inside of a charming building. Parking was free and it was only 5 dollars to get in the door (plus, you received a Vitamin Water as a bonus!). I sipped my drink, browsed through all of the unique vendors, and picked up several pieces of jewelry!

Here were my three favorite vendors:
1. The Silver Importer: They had reasonably priced, high quality jewelry. As the name suggests, the majority of their jewelry was silver (I picked up a pair of silver elephant earrings!).
2. Rewerked: This woman takes old shirts, blankets, and various types of clothing and "reworks" them into eclectic pieces of clothing. Their vests were especially darling!
3. The Paper Nest Co: Their organic cotton onesies would make a charming and unique baby shower gift. Also, I'm just in love with their card collection! Their use of patterned fabric on card stock is fresh and fun.

Let Us Pray: Japan

It has been 10 days since Japan was hit by the greatest tsunami in its history. Measuring a 9 on the Richter scale, there are over 10000 deaths reported and the missing persons search continues. Although this is nothing new from what you've heard on the news, I would encourage everyone to continue to pray for Japan in this hour of need. Do not forget so quickly about the loss and tragedy of the Japanese people. Please pray for Japan.

Fresh Finds: Victorian Romance Draped Dress

This little number is from Ruche, one of my favorite dress shops. Although the dress is decidedly simple, I just really liked the way the draping fell along the bottom of the dress. It's sugary sweet because of its lace and white fabric, but could also be a little more funky when paired with some boots like this or a jacket like this.

Quote of the Day: Ivan Turgenev

If we wait for the moment when everything, absolutely everything is ready, we shall never begin.

- Ivan Turgenev

The painting above is entitled First Steps by Vincent van Gogh. I thought it a fitting representation of what Mr. Turgenev is talking about. There will never be a point in our lives where we reach "perfection," that title is reserved for God alone. Thus, our beginnings, our first steps in life, often come upon us when we least expect it and feel least prepared. Never let this be an excuse for not doing good today. Rather, rejoice in the humble nature of our human condition: we can do all things, even in our weakness, through He who strengthens us.

Athlete Chic: Rodeo

As a northern girl living in Texas, I thought I would pay tribute to the sport of, well, being a cowgirl. Barrel racing, bareback riding, and roping are all events of the modern rodeo. The rodeo season has started down here with the famous Houston Rodeo going on from March 1st - 20th. There is something fun and refreshing about the energy of country music, culture, and just down home, southern living. So, I present five pieces for your consideration: A Fresh Take on the Classic Cowgirl.

Instead of boot cut pants, try a light wash skinny jean and cuff them. How about a flannel shirt in bright colors? Substitute the cowgirl boots for a more modern brown leather boot. Echo the famous cowboy belt buckles by pairing this outfit with a more muted (but still oh so fun) belt. And to finish, if you're feeling bold, this hat is just sweet.

Vintage Icons: Greta Garbo

Greta Garbo is one of the most notable and elusive actresses of the Golden Age of Hollywood. The American Film Institute billed her as the fifth greatest female actress of all time. Her performance in movies such as Anna Christie, Romance, Camille, and Ninotchka earned her Academy Award nominations for Best Actress, though she would never walk away with an Award. At one point, the Guinness Book of World Records would name her the most beautiful woman who ever lived. Those long eyelashes and arched eyebrows characterize the sultry sweet style that she epitomizes. Her classic glamour is found in crisp black and white, berets, and fierce mascara

Classics: The Thin Man

Myrna Loy and William Powell. What a dynamic duo they made. The Thin Man was the first of seven movies about Nick and Nora, the unwilling detective and his persistent wife. A must for any detective story enthusiasts, Nick and Nora's witty and dry interchanges will keep you laughing until the end.

All Things Green.

All Things Green
"I cannot pretend to feel impartial about colors. I rejoice with the brilliant ones and am genuinely sorry for the poor browns." - Winston Churchill

Emerald. Forrest. Kelly. Fern. Caribbean. Pine. Shamrock. Rainforest. Sea. Wintergreen. Ocean. Eucalyptus. Malachite. Lime. Jade.

All of these words are adjectives used by Crayola to describe the various shades of green crayons. In preparation for St. Patrick's Day, I thought it fitting to post about the many wonderful shades of green and how they are expressed in the fashion world.

"Courage is not simply one of the virtues, but the form of every virtue at the testing point." - C.S. Lewis

"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends. To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Somewhere I Have Never Travelled

Somewhere I Have Never Travelled
(By E. E. Cummings) Somewhere I have never travelled, gladly beyond Any experience, your eyes have their silence: In your most frail gesture are things which enclose me, Or which I cannot touch because they are too near Your slightest look easily will unclose me Though I have closed myself as fingers, You open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens (Touching skillfully, mysteriously)her first rose Or if your wish be to close me, I and My life will shut very beautifully ,suddenly, As when the heart of this flower imagines The snow carefully everywhere descending; Nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals The power of your intense fragility: whose texture Compels me with the color of its countries, Rendering death and forever with each breathing (I do not know what it is about you that closes And opens; only something in me understands The voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses) Nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands
