Flash Back: Oxfords

As the name suggests, the Oxford shoe originated in (yes, you guessed it) Oxford, England around 1800. Characterized by the laces and solid construction, it became the standard man's shoe. In the 1940s, Katherine Hepburn adopted the masculine shoe with gusto, setting a trend in women's fashion. Well, over 60 years later, the oxford is back in spades. A street trend all over the cobbled lanes of Europe, it can be seen in patent leather, standard leather, or canvas. Heels, flats, wedges, military boots, and everything in between - these shoes have made a glorious comeback. Try out TargetZara and Urban Outfitters for the affordable modern take on this vintage classic. Lace up your shoes and step back a half century.

This is to have succeeded." - Ralph Waldo Emerson
